I have an original Model 1817 rifle. The barrel extends 3-1/4" beyond the end of the stock. The stock is 48" overall length.

Ask me any questions about building a Model 1817, I also built one.

later, Mike

I’m actually working on a kit now, if you want to message me, we can discuss the pattern

Mine is an 1827 dated Deringer, with a distance of 3.03 inches from the front of the band to the muzzle

I’m new to this site so Im needing help. I just purchased this Harpers Ferry. I believe the front barrel band is incorrect. Also would like the model and anything else that is not correct on the rifle. I appreciate anyone’s time. It is dated 1817. Again any info would help. Thanks a million.

Thats not a common rifle you have there, its more of a compilation of parts for an 1803, 1814 and 1817 rifle parts.

What you have is an 1803 lock and very possibly an 1817 common rifle barrel.

The 1817 common rifle stock was pretty much a miniature 1816 lock in carbine size. The barrel was 36-37” .54 caliber full round with two small flats on each side of the breech.

The stock had significant drop with a round patchbox and a two piece trigger guard that was riveted together.

The stock you have looks like a 1814 rifle stock, or possibly a restock of some kind.

The barrel bands on an 1814 stock used a double looped front band with a band spring that was located between the loops.

The nosecap and rammer look like an enfield rammer.

So my final thought.

This is possibly some type of confederate musket made from surplus parts captured at the harpers ferry arsenal. It’s not an uncommon thing to see odd muskets patched together with surplus parts and CSA markings.
