I seem to recall that way back in the late 1940s or early 1950s the nra mag carried ads for a replica walker. then they dropped them. I visited a new york antique arms store at that time and was told the nra dropped the ad because people were aging the guns and trying to sell them as originals. graybeard.

Guess it never occured to anyone that a good gun with undersized chambers and metric screws wasn't the real thing!! :haha:

Well, there are some low life thieves out there who will rip off their own mother if they think they can get away with it.

These guys are the reason that a person is well advised to get a professional arms collector to check out any "old" gun that is being sold for big bucks.

Call me dumb, but when I aged one of my cap and ball guns, I intentionally left the BLACK POWDER ONLY marking on the barrel just so if it ever gets sold as an "original", the buyer is a total idiot, or it was modified by someone other than me to remove the markings.

zonie :)

This one hits close to the sights right from the box. This load is 50 Gr/Vol Pyrodex P and a .454" ball. this sort of off-hand accuracy is not unusual

When I see good targets shot with a Walker I always think of R.I.P. Ford's account of the Texas troops using them in mexico during the Mexican-American. I'd have to look at it again to see if a specific name was mentioned but the regimental sharpshooter picked off a Mexican soldier at 120 "long strides". That's good shooting in anybody's book!

Wes / Tex,

Thanks for the story. Now I can use it to back-up the fact that my Walker hit a torso-sized gong at 135 yards...took about 3/4 second to get there after the boom :shocked2: . Turned a few heads that day :) . After that shot, since I was empty, I just put that thar shootin iron in it's holster and called it a day :rotf: .

One of these days I'll buy another one so I can do a Josey Wales shoot.

Happy Easter, Dave
