I bought an 1858 New Army from cabelas a few years back. I had good luck target shooting with the gun, tight groups and good zero. It was laid up for about ten years, still shoots good groups, but I am having a hard time moving the sights around to get it back on zero. Sights seem kind of primitive and adjustments are hard to fine tune. Does anyone make sights for this gun, or are there other sights that fit this gun without any mods or very few?

Are you saying you have the target model? I have the target model with adjustable rear sight and front blade. Doesn't help me a bit, I'm sure I would be just as deadly accurate with the standard model (18" groups at 25 yards) :shake: Haven't figured it out yet,I can hit the 10 ring fairly regular with my Kentucky pistol with a spread of maybe 5" but this revolver gives me grief.

I can keep a snug group at 25 yards, not snug groups are on me, i am sure. Just having trouble adjusting sights CONSISTENTLY. there are screws for windage and another for elevation. There is wiggle room and they dont seem to tighten down the rear sight well. Feels like i'll have to get lucky to get point of aim at a six o'clock hold with rounds striking the bull, and then just stop adjusting.

Shooting .454 round ball and 25 grains of fff. Filler with cream of wheat. Cant remember off hand cap size. This has kept decent groups for me

Took it to the range. Finally got it nailed down and kept them in the nine ring at 25 yards, minus one i pulled. I shot my Uberti .36 too. One of my most enjoyable days in a while!! I forgot how much fun they are to shoot. Still looking for a better rear sight though.

I have a question . I also have this model. What amount of pyrodex are you using for round balls? I have been using the pellets which are 30 grains and shoot well but I have the pistol powder and wanted to make up some combustable paper cartridges and was wondering how much powder to use?

I am using 27 grains of Goex fff and keeping them in the 9 ring or better off hand at 25 yds, with the occasional flyer. Off a rest 4 out of 5 are touching in a tight group, I didn't measure the size of the group. Up or down on powder seemed to spread the group out, although not much.
