Please be advised that 5.5 - .9mm is NOT the correct size of the nipples for my Uberti. Again, it's very discouraging that Cimarron, the importer, doesn't even know the size of their guns nipples.

TOW nipple wrenches NW-130 and 140 fit my revolver, but NW-140 seems to fit the best....

Has anyone bought replacement nipples (other than the factory Uberti) for their revolver and know the CORRECT size?

Gene,

After spending some time in their store I can understand your problem.

The proper replacement nipples are:

Tresco

Revolver Nipples 6 Pack
12-28 threads
ID # 11-60-166

I get mine from the Possibles Shop, he is a board sponsor and is a super nice person to deal with. I have ordered three pistols from him.

Gene - you apparently missed my post, just before yours:
Nipple thread size: I believe you ended up with a Uberti; their midsize frame replicas use a 12x28 thread nipple, which is virtually identical with the quoted M5.5x0.9mm size (a thread which doesn't exist in the metric thread standards, by the way).

Or are you saying that the 12x28 thread does not fit?

I suspect that the reason folks list the thread as a M5.5 X 0.9 even though it doesn't exist (according to the metric thread charts) is because that size is almost exactly what a #12-28 UN thread would be if it was converted into millimeters.

Actually if a #12-28UN thread is converted to metric it would be a M5.4864 X 0.9071 thread.

The thread form of both the Metric and UN threads is a 60 degree V. :)

Fellows,

Thanks for your info on the nipple size. I've got six 12-28's coming.
(All this was off-hand)Shot her again this morning!! First six rds had a one inch group at 10 yds and two misfires. Shot some 8 in. plates at 35 yds and she was knocking 'em down. All the loads were 25 grns 3F with a Horn .454 RB. The .454 balls were shaving lead as I seated them in the chambers......so as soon as I shoot up my .457 RBs, I'll probably go with the .454.
She seems to shoot pretty flat, even at 35 yds she was hitting point of aim.........
Now if I can find a quick way to clean her, it would be even more fun!!!!
Now if that conversion cylinder would just get here!!!

What are you planning on using in that conversion cylinder? Everything that I am reading says you have to use cowboy loads in them, not modern loads.

It will be cowboy loads...........probably the Speer .454 255 LSWC in front of Unique or Universal. It's been awhile since I reloaded for the 45 LC (good thing I kept my dies). The main reason I'm considering the conversion/cb loads is the cleanup factor...........I shoot early in the morning and then rush home to go to work, it doesn't leave me alot of time to clean a BP revolver. I took my Ruger BH with me yesterday and after shooting it, it still looked clean! The Rem was dirty!!!
The cleanup factor makes me wonder, how did those Civil War soldiers clean theirs......Also, Buffalo Bill gave his Rem to a friend, it still looked pretty good???
