I wound up getting a Pietta 1860 Army (Colt clone). It arrived today. I'm very pleased with it, though I haven't shot it yet. It looks and feels very nice. Lockup is very tight (more so than any of my cartridge revolvers I think) - there is virtually NO play in the cylinder. The cylinder gap is also very small - I worry that it may be subject to fouling because I can only see the gap by holding it up to the light and looking very closely. There appears to be a very small burr at the end of the trigger, and slight discoloration on one small edge of the brass trigger guard, but these are very minor. Overall, the quality is much better than I expected - I'm quite impressed. I've cocked and uncocked it, spun the cylinder, worked the loading lever, etc. a lot since it arrived, and everything feels very smooth and precise. I have a fair collection of modern handguns, but, for the moment at least, this one really impresses me. Considering the very moderate cost, I'm going to have to collect some more of these cap and ball revolvers - at lease a Remington, maybe an 1851 Navy and others.
