Howdy, I'm just getting out of Rev War and F&I reenacting, and considering starting Civil War. I have a repro 1861 Springfield that a friend gave me. I'm not sure of the maker. The problem is it has a replacement barrel, but the breech tang doesn't fit right. The replacement barrel is made in Japan, so it's marked. The Lock is markers US and Springfield, and the new barrel is marked 1861 at the breech. Inside the lock is marked 52 and the lock mortise is also stamped 52 in the wood. Buttplate stamped US. Who makes replacement barrels? Anyway to determine the original manufacture? Thanks for the help.

Miroku made barrel. Sorry, but I can't help you with the rest.

If no one on the forum can help, I would recomend getting a hold of the folks at: www.Lodgewood.com.
They know CW original/repro guns.
