Did the buffalo horn last year, but had to try an antler measure after seeing all the incredible stuff others have posted here.
Mine doesn't measure up ( :shake: ) to most of what I saw here, but I'll keep practicing.

Not bad at all. I really like the way you left the natural antler texture in the middle. Very well executed. Don't sell yourself short

thanks fellers. :v
80g FFF.
that section came from the main beam, pretty close to the base (skull insert) - has a core of that pithy fibery stuff which you can see in the top pic/lanyard knob. That stuff doesn't stain up very cleanly.
Guess one would need to get out near the antler tips to get a more uniform/refined look throughout the piece ?

And even then you will have some of that core. Just according to how thick the antler tip is.

Aw, come on, you don't want to be enbarrased by being seen with that piece of garbage. :barf: Give it to me. :hatsoff:

Hard to avoid the porous core with whitetail antlers, You are right about using the tines but that is no guarantee. Some of the exotics such as Sambar stag (I believe), is one that has a solid core and favors the Whitetail antler a lot. Most of the knife supply companies carry it. :v

Very well done and your's measures up just as well as the others because it has your individual touch to it :applause: . I really like the natural texture that you left in the center section.

I have also had the same issue with the pithy core on some antler but have found that if those areas are highly polished, they take a stain more evenly.

Mike, Very nice measure....Nothing wrong in my opinion anyway!

You know, if you drill you a hole in the top and feed that thong through it, your measure will hang straight down and not sideways?

JMHO
Rick.........

It looks good to me..... But I would not attach it to the powder horn. I don't want the powder horn anywhere close to the muzzle when I pour the powder down the barrel... :shake:

If you could see the damage a priming flask explosion does to a guys hand, it would make ya realize what a 1/2# of powder from a powder horn or flask could do. :shocked2:

I keep my powder measurer hanging on a lanyard attached to my possibles bag strap. Some have them on a lanyard around their neck, some put them in the pocket.

thanks Rick.
I wasn't tracking on your configuration idea - were you suggesting an additional hole in the measure somewhere ?
one of those 'lost in email translation' issues... or more likely its just me.

Keith - roger that - in practice the measure will be tethered to a front pocket on my hunting vest. I keep my measure attached to one of those small retractable zip line clip thingies that fly fishermen use.
Not sure Davy Crockett had one of those - but I'm sure he woulda if he coulda.

Looks good MM. Good tip from Birddog too. :shocked2: We don't want any unexpected booms!
