My appologies if I did not see this in another thread but can you tell us more about your rifle?
What is it, where did you get it/who built it?
 
To me, a flash in the pan means, hang on there may be a delayed action...sometimes is and sometimes not. All depends on the pan powder...I am usually careful to keep the powder level below the fire hole; however, sometimes inadvertently tilt the rifle and powder covers the fire hole..flash, pzzzzz, bang!
