I got excited this weekend and made a holster and belt for my brass framed Remmington 1858. I got the pattern at Tandy's, as well as the belt blank, buckle and brass spots. I can't afford anything Chuck Burrows makes, unless I managed to sell off one of the kids. His stuff is just plain amazing. This my poor attempt to make something like stuff you see on this web site, you know, if you squint, shut one eye, and look from about 50 feet away. I have got to get a copy of his DVD set...

Anyway, the pattern is from Will Ghormley's Forty-Niner Holster pattern pack. I bought a swivel knife and gave the carving pattern a shot. It came out ok. I hadn't done any leather carving, man, I still have a lot of techinque to master. I just winged it on the belt. Tandy had their 2" inch belt blanks on sale for $9, so I figured that if I messed it up, I didn't have much invested in it. Everything is saddled stiched and dyed using Fiebing's medium brown leather dye.

Any comments or suggestions are appreciated as usual. Ain't BP grand, so many opportunities to learn new stuff.

Thanks, Tim

Well I think you have done a rip-snortin' fine job on that holster! I've been making my own sheaths for the knives I make since 1989 and I would be ecstatic if they looked as good as yours! I am wanting to make some holsters for my C&B revolvers and now with your inspiration I am ordering some patterns tonight!

Really, really nice. I got to handle an 1858 Rem for the first time the other day, and I really think I'm gonna get one. I guess then I'll have to find a holster and maybe I'll take your example to do it with.

If that's your first holster, I can't wait to see how you do when you've had some experience. Your third one will be a masterpiece! :hatsoff:  :applause:

You did a very nice job looks great for your first cant imagin what they will like when you get a dz of em done keep up the good work !!

it looks great. i wish my first shot at carving leather had come out half as good.

Hot Dang! you done real Fine hoss!!!!
That's one of the harder styles of carving to do.... :hatsoff: :hatsoff:

There's only a couple of minor things I'd recommend to do different - give me a call sometime and we'll talk - if you get the machine leave a message and I'll call back.....heck darn you being in ABQ we're only 5-6 hours apart!

For anyone wanting to make a period correct holster Will Ghormley's holster patterns are A number one Charlie!

aka Chuck Burrows...........
