It seems I have mistakenly loaded 2 .457 balls in one chamber on my Uberti Colt Walker. Both are sitting on 42-48 grains of Pyrodex 3F

Is it okay to fire it this way or am I breaking her down and attempting to extract the powder and both of my lead friends?

The safest way is to extract the extra ball with a ball-puller or wood screw. Next best is to remove the nipple and punch it out from the rear. Shooting it risks bulging the barrel.

That must be one hell of a long cylinder.

I didn't think you could get one inch of lead and 45 grains of powder in any cap n ball revolver.

45 grains of powder is 1-1/4" long when compressed in a .44 chamber.

How long are those chambers?

It is a walker. Std load was 60 gr.

My Dragoon is a blast.

May need a Walker too.

Just did some reading.

A Walker puts the .45acp to shame. That ball travels several hundred feet per second faster than the 1911's 230 grain FMJ bullet.

I’ve done it, pull nipple. I keep a smalleyeglass screwdriver in bag fits thru nipple hole, one whack al it all pops out. Simple.
Edit- i would not attempt to shoot it clear, bad idea.

42-48 grains of 3F in a Walker isn't a real heavy load, I shoot around 50 in mine but with .454 balls. I've read here and there where some shooters use .457 balls in their Walker. Haven't heard of any problems, but pulling or pounding them out as Cap.Vane advised if yer concerned.
