If I don't have the new one finished, I'll be shooting my old one.

I saw on another site that Charlie Bailey passed away this weekend, he finished 8th last year.

This one is taking longer than I had planned. I got my barrel from Bob Hoyt at the PA Championship and sawed out the stock in July, but family matters have occupied much of my time. I got my mule ear lock finished a couple of weeks ago and finally got it and the triggers inletted. Now I'm making the buttplate and getting the stock worked down. I still have to make the triggerguard and sights. As soon as I can get out and shoot her in, I'll start browning and staining. Oh, and I need to make a new cant block.

I can't remember Charlie Bailey, but there's so many people there and I'm so bad with names that's no surprise. I hate to hear it when we lose shooters. His family has my sympathies.

I'm all set to go! Rifle's done and in the process of being shot in.

I've got my pre-reg papers and just need to send in my money and the form. How many on here are planning to go?

The weather was finally dry and windfree enough today for me to practice. My string wound up at 13.85, two bad shots added 5 inches to what would have been an outstanding score for me.

Now if I can just get in 4 or 5 more sessions between now and the match...gonna rain tomorrow.

A few of us practiced after our regular shoot Saturday. I'm still getting the feel of this new rifle, but I started out pretty good. I had a ragged hole in my sighter about the size of a 50 cent piece. I shot three 3 shot groups in regular chunk targets and my first one showed some promise. The first shot was a bit off at just over an inch, then the next two were .413 and .310. I felt pretty good at just over 1.7" until I shot a 2.873 on the next one and then a 4.59 on the last one or a total of 9.201". And that was just 9 shots. I figger a ten shot group would have been at least 10 inches. I shanked my last shot which was just over 2 inches, half the ball was in the white. I was tired from shooting all day, but that ain't a good enough excuse. I know I rushed a few shots. I believe 'ol Myrt will do the job if only I do my part. I'll find out Saturday at Morgan's Creek. I'll say one thing, that mule ear goes off in a hurry! I just need to PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE! 8.8 inches just got me a turkey last year and it's bound to be tougher this year.

I'll try, but there's so much stuff going on there it'll be hard to remember everything. I always try to take a few pictures. If there is enough time between my shot and posting a new target, I try to take a couple of the firing line. That usually doesn't happen unless somebody is having problems or the shooting is slow and the relay is longer. As much as we try to win (the prizes are good), we enjoy sitting around the fire and shooting the bull and eatin'. And if it ain't too cold, takin' a bath in the Wolf River. And we get to see some of the best shots from the US and Canada.

I'm going to a match in Kentucky tomorrow and hope to do pretty good (emphasis on "hope"). I'd just like to see what 'ol Myrt can do. I wish I could do her justice.

Well, we had the Kentucky match today and I survived. Won most of my entry fee back with a 9.009" string. I had two real good targets, but one in the white. Can't afford to do that at Pall Mall. But it was a good practice session. I believe a new front sight may be in order or a modification of the one I have, but I won't have the time to make the change in time for the York shoot.

Near Louisa in the eastern part. It's a new small range built by a WV shooter. Saturday's shoot was a "tuneup" shoot for York. There was only 14 shooters but we have a good time. Laid back event that lets us do some fine tuning on our shooting and ribbing each other.

There's talk of expanding the range in the future and hopefully we'll be seeing a bigger turnout and more events there. :applause:

Looks like we're going to need scuba gear at York. Severe T-Storms forecasted for tomorrow and Saturday. :(

Hi Bill if you will go to the Ameircan Historic Services Home and click on the York Shoot you will find pic's of last years shoot and they will post this years after the shoot. If you look at last years pick's you will see me I am standing behind Andy York and Allen Coon. I just live about 40 min. from the York farm and will be there Health stops me from shooting but I love to be there. There is a 70% chance of rain but that won't stop the shoot.

NOAA is forecasting 90% now, but we'll be thar this afternoon. We're bringing enough wet weather gear to keep us dry enough to shoot. I just hope we don't have to use a periscope to aim with. :rotf: We're used to shooting in lousy weather, so it's no big thang.

the shoot was shortened to 6 matches instead of 10 because of the weather.

I thought last year that it was a miracle that we got the shoot in, that pales in comparison to what it was like this year. Rain, mud, wind, and finally bright sunshine made for a very interesting day. The wind the 2nd relay was blowing my .40 caliber balls 4 inches from normal. I had about 9 inches total for my string, two shots were 3s (3rd and 5th matches)! The other 4 combined was just under 3. Hamburger for me!!!

Mike Medjeski won the shoot with a 1.485
Neil Eddington was 2nd with 2.145
Tim Turnbull 3rd with 2.266
Jim York (Sgt. York's grandson) 4th with 2.757
Bill Disbro 5th 2.901
David Krumme 2.931

Paul Griffith didn't shoot in the match.

Guys, I would have taken pictures, but things were so busy that I didn't have time during the match while everyone still had their guns out. If anyone loves underhammers they would have been in hog heaven.

Boy, what a mess! I went with high hopes, but my first shot went into the white. It would have helped to have had a few minutes more to shoot our groups but they got in too big a hurry. My other shots went in the black and I had a couple in there close, but I ended up with a 8.332 string. Not good for a 6 shot match. We still had a pretty good time visiting and watching the tractors pull a bunch of campers out Saturday night and this morning.

We didn't get any hamburger this year. Apparently, the guys who won the steak, pork and ham also availed themselves of the chuck and a bunch of us didn't get anything. Not even the taller! We didn't starve though. We had elk burgers for supper with all the fixin's.

Maybe I'll be better prepared next year after I get used to my new gun. Apparently the weather didn't hurt some of these shooters, because even after figuring in the shortened match, there were some pretty good scores yesterday.

Since y'all didn't get your share of the beef, you should have went down and dug the lead out of the trees.

Can you imagine how long it would take to even locate enough of the rounds to make it worth the trouble? In the brush, trees, riverbank... :(
