2024/2025 All hunting chat?

Can’t believe I missed this thread! I haven’t rendezvoused or belonged to a club in a long time. Hunting is about the only time I pick up my muzzleloaders any more!

My family has had a successful hunting season with muzzleloaders. I guided my dad on his first ever mule deer and black bear hunt in Colorado. While I didn’t fill my bear tag (less than 3% do in the unit we were in, mainly chasing deer), my dad capitalized on both of his firsts!

We spent 6 days living out of our packs in the backcountry. Seen some beautiful scenery, caught and ate some fish, and enjoyed a lot of moments together.

My deer season back home (Kansas) was pretty rough. Hunting pressure picked up around the properties I hunt, had a neighbor throw some soap under one of my stands, had a gut wrenching encounter with what wouldn’t been my largest archery buck, and all of the deer I was chasing practically disappeared come December. I did, however, tag a decent buck with my flintlock this last weekend.

I’m looking forward to following my Brittany spoodle around in search of quail the rest of the upland season. May even try to make a weekend pheasant trip if the kids’ wrestling schedules don’t get too crazy. I’ve yet to harvest a quail or pheasant with my smoothbore, so that’ll be an accomplishment I look forward to pursuing.

For S’s and G’s, here are a few of the bucks I was chasing this year. These were all deer I seen on the hoof during daylight hours (didn’t want to give any the impression I was hunting ghosts) during the season, just couldn’t connect or close the distance. Lots of young up and comers with plenty of mature deer to go around next season

What is it like to camp with just a backpack? What essentials do you bring along? What are your dinner plans and other activities? Are you bringing your fishing gear, such as a travel rod? I had a fully equipped tent with cots and a stove, as well as a trailer nearby with an extension cord. Good luck with birdwatching! Pointing poodles make excellent dogs. I wasn't aware that Brittney was a mix. Brittany Spaniels are renowned for being great dogs. I had one as a child and had forgotten about it. My grandfather had a Brittany Spaniel that he eventually gave to a friend, as he no longer wanted to bathe it regularly. He praised the dog but said that was the issue, so he gave it to a friend in need of a dog, which I was okay with since I knew the friend.

Coffee.. Having a coffee. I used to go places to have a coffee. The neighbors when I lived out of state. Had a fire every night in Michigan and Maine. I'd cook some meat just before dark. Have a dinner. Then go sit by the fire with a coffee. I have the fire pit here. I need a quart of wood, really, is the truth. Coffee is good.

Backcountry Hunters and Anglers is an organization I am considering joining, as they have a New England chapter. Historically, I have been a member of Pheasants Forever, but they do not have a presence in this area. For the new year, I am thinking of making a change and dropping my membership with Pheasants Forever to try out BHA instead. As it is not feasible to join all organizations, I am seeking to support one that aligns with my interests. Typically, I maintain membership with one or two organizations. I am curious to know if anyone else participates in or supports these types of federations.

Shooting Darts.. I have consistently engaged in the hobby of shooting darts over the years. While I never participated in dart games at bars, I always maintained a board in the basement and invested in quality dart sets. There is something inherently appealing about this activity. You find yourself throwing a set of darts at the board and then alternating turns, simply shooting darts for an hour or two. Upon reflection, I realize it has been a couple of years since I last played. Although I still possess the board, my children unfortunately damaged all the darts. I have recently begun searching for a new, high-quality set for myself, as well as something suitable for my children. I am currently undecided on what to purchase. I find these particular darts aesthetically pleasing.

Gun club. Redevinouse camp

I noticed at the redevinouse camp at the gun cub. Kinda a ghost town. I don't know when anyone is there. They have knife throwing axe throwing stations everywhere etc. Fire pit and wood. They just monitor the place with a card cameras. I don't have the rifle yet to show up there but I scouted the camp out when I was there patterning my Shotgun.

I thought about just going and just using that as a camping place for the kids and family with the dogs. It's not bad. There is a pond down the street to catch dinner.

I guess just don't leave anything behind. No mess. I'll have to call and ask.

I observed that the redevinouse camp at the gun club appears to be somewhat deserted. I am uncertain about the frequency of attendance. The facility is equipped with various amenities, including knife and axe throwing stations, a fire pit, and a wood supply. Surveillance is maintained through the use of card cameras. Although I do not yet possess a rifle to utilize the facilities, I conducted reconnaissance during a prior visit while patterning my shotgun.
I considered utilizing the campsite as a family camping destination, inclusive of our children and dogs. The location is satisfactory, with a nearby pond offering fishing opportunities.
It is essential to ensure that the area is left in its original state, with no traces of our presence. I intend to contact the administration to inquire about the feasibility of this proposal.

I am pleased with these options. I have been considering Shotgun

cases and leather ammunition bags. While I would like to acquire both, I think I will start with the bag. The possible bag at Cabela's and similar options that are comparable in price are of interest to me. I believe I can efficiently utilize the space by placing a number of OS cards at the bottom and using Shotgun shell holders to store up to ten shots worth of powder and shot in their plastic tubes. I think the single-compartment bag will suffice. Without exploring numerous alternatives with liners and other features, which can become quite expensive.
