I too have settled on 70 grains for PRB but I still have some mixed feelings about 2f or 3f powder.

There is no doubt my 54 cal. rifle likes 2f but my 28 ga. smoothie seems to like 3F.

Guns and women sure are hard to understand.

The TC manual say to load 80 grains of 2F and 7/8 oz of shot for the 56 cal smooth bore. It also says to use 2 fiber wads. The question is where do ya get 56 cal wads today?

28ga wads.
Personal experience are the Circle Fly 1/2" lubed fiber wads...or 1 or 2 of the Oxyoke 1/8" lubed "Wonderwads" (wool / felt)

Then 1-2 Circle Fly OS cards on top of the shot charge.

PS: I'll be surprise if you're satisfied with a 7/8 oz shot charge as a general purpose small game load

Rat trapper,
Best place I know if is to PM Ohio Ramrod and talk to him about making you a punch. He is a great gentleman to deal with. I was honestly surprised to find someone this good, but shouldn't have been considering the bunch here on this forum.

G. Ron,
You're absolutely right that I go above and beyond what a modern 28ga shotgun shell can contain, but like I said, my gun is a heavy walled modern steel barrel, and not a light weight bird gun, so my loads are safe in my gun. Also, as has been said many times here, part of the benefit of using a ML is that we are not limited to what we can load by the size of the shell itself. And I also listed my light load which is more in line with what is considered normal for a 28ga, and does work well for most things, just doesn't hold a good pattern for turkey. I would trust it to 15-20yds on turkey, but can get good turkey patterns out to 30 or so yards with the heavy load. I do have a 13ga SxS, but it is a caplock and the .54 flinter gets the nod for most things.

Trapper, go to Northern Tool or other tool supplier and get a 9/16" cutter punch. Save some of your beer boxes with wax on the cardboard and cut until your hearts desire................
