I got lucky again and found this guy while still hunting the edge of a small hemlock swamp.

Shot at 30 yards, the .54 ball pushed by 70 grs of fffg hit him high in the shoulder and ruined the lungs. He still went about 75 yards before giving up the ghost.

One buck tag filled in the early muzzleloader season and now I filled my buck tag for the rifle season. One weekend to go to try and fill my deer management permit.

Britches

Congrats Britches!
I envy you having an early muzzleloader season. What a dissapointment it was when they decided not to have one in the southern zone.

Hey....is that a beagle in the second picture? Do you rabbit hunt with it? How about hare? I have five beagles for rabbits myself.

Britches, I know you're flyin' high...good hunting skills too in getting him still hunting...congratulations!!
:hatsoff:

Nice - Dang I miss hunting in the snow - grew up in Northern Michigan, since moving to Kentucky, hunts in the snow are very rare - those photos make me a little home sick - thanks for sharing them.

I don't think anything is as satisfying as a stillhunt in the snow! Congrats on your kill.

don't know why the season is devided up the way it is either but am happy with the northern outcome, course I live here. The early week made a lot of archers angry because it cut into their exclusive month with bow and arrow.

Yup, that's Buddy the Beagle.

He is really the wifes companion and she wouldn't let me run em. He has an awesome nose but we don't trust his smarts. Fear him getting car struck crossing a road or chasing for hours and not remembering what county he started in.

Britches,
:nono: on using dogs for deer hunting
in Ohio, not even to track a wounded deer unless
the dog is on a lead. Seems fair to me but everyone has their own opinion....

Just to clarify, I don't use dogs to run or find deer, illeagal here anyway. Buddy would be a great rabbit dog if the wife would let me use him for that.

nice job you look like a very happy man kinda funny how modern hunters feel a flinter wih a prb isnt adequate. :hatsoff:curly maple
