Stopped by my second favorite lgs at lunch time. The owner sometimes will sell you black powder out of his private stash, if he has spare. No joy this time. However, he had a small, spur-trigger pistol in the case with no price. For $75, I picked up this...

A Pedersoli Liegi Derringer

Would make a nice muff gun. Certainly such a small piece like that is insufficient for your needs and quite a dainty thing for a guy. Just box it up and I'll take it off your hands so you won't have to be embarrassed on the range.

Hard to tell with the shadow in the photo, was wondering if it was one with the screw-off barrel? Those are interesting since the slightly bigger ball than bore got a good bit of speed up with a small charge.

Yes, it is the screw off barrel.

You got a great deal on that little pistol. I have two and they are fun to shoot and easy to maintain. Try Swiss or 777, you'll get the best velocities out of those powders.

Loading the Liegi pistol

You unscrew the barrel...

Revealing the powder chamber with it's cupped mouth...

You fill the powder chamber full of powder - about 12 grains - then set a round ball on the cupped mouth...

Then you slide the barrel over the ball and screw it down...

Which seats the ball in the barrel...

After which you put a cap on the nipple and shoot.

The ball after being popped out of the barrel with my ball starter. Note the rifling impressed on the ball.

Now that is down right cute! I imagine that with that powder charge the threads stay pretty clean.

When the wife saw it, she cooed over how cute it was. Today she asked me to show her how to load her new pistol!

Err, what? Did I miss something? I don't remember giving it to her...

Just remember, What's Hers is Hers,And what's Yours is Hers! :rotf:

And some day when you pick up another irresitable pistol or rifle, She will be a tad more accomodating... well at least a bit less miffed!

Shot it today. Very heavy trigger. May be some way to fix it, but don't know yet. Didn't even hit the target stand at 15 feet.
