Cut yer strips, soak em, lay em out FLAT on a piece of foil etc and let em dry then the oil is in the patch EVENLY and each patch exactly the same. YOU WILL NEED TO SWIPE BETWEEN SHOTS (Most Likely)

If yer not into swiping use em wet (But I'm betting you like Hoppes better than Balistol and water wet). Keep us posted!

I’m with Pete G on this I use a lot of Ballistol. I use a 7 parts water to 1 part Ballistol for patch lube and I use a 10 to one mixture, with a couple of other additives, for a black powder solvent, and I use a mixture of Ballistol and bee’s wax for a bullet lube in my black powder cartridge rifles. It is good stuff.

I will stop belly aching :redface: and just wait it out, Do NOT like ranges myself. I lived in Phoenix for 1.5 years so up here NOTHINGS too far but I just prefer to be more "alone" when I shoot. TY though I will save the link and if it comes to it I will swallow my foolish pride and pay my money and try it out!

You'd love our range. There is no staff. Once you are pooped up on the operation you get the combo for the gate...open and relock it.
I go in the afternoon and lately am there totally alone...whole place to myself.
If you use some target stuff that's provided you put some quarters in the box...on your honor kind of thing.

I gave the Hoppes a try but didn't find it that great. As I said, Wano is dirty powder and it takes a good wipe with alcohol between shots to keep the barrel free of fouling. No harm in trying it though. Wish we could get Goex, I'd buy 20kg of the stuff!

Got a soft spot for Aussies, few of your guys and myself took on a few MP's in Vung Tau in country R&R one late evening. We lost, they had radios.

We don't like losing anything especially drinking games and blues (fights)! Wano is a German made black powder made by LHS who also make Swiss, and about the only one we can get for some reason. When I first took up black powder shooting I bought Goex off the shelf but that was in the heyday of T/C type replicas. I have just sourced a supplier that sells bulk Wano cheaply so may do a 'run' to get some for future supplies. It runs about $35/lb at the moment and going up due to supply problems.

One thing's for sure,the price won't go down. One of the clubs here brings in Swiss, but at over $50 lb quite a few guys have stopped using it!

another afternoon alone on the range shooting at 100 yards. Printed in the black about a 12" area, had some throwers where I knew I'd jerked some. Printing regularly low and 7 o'clock.
This has been consistent on the low so I'm going to start over at 25 yards and confirm before I do any front sight work.
15 balls today and 100% ignition...have about 25 shots on the flint without messing with it and it still looks good.
I'd flipped it 25 rds ago so the bevel was down/flat up. It worked itself into a two bevel deal like that so as it wears it sharpens itself. Works for me.
Really am loving this rifle, sweet and consistent.
I wiped between each shot today and that made for easy loading etc.

What is the size of the black on an official NMLRA 50 and 100 yard targets? How about the X, 10, 9, 8 (etc) rings?

I've been using 50 meter ISSF smallbore targets (British NSRA) and know the scoring rings are larger than that, but wonder if the bull size is different too.

I was using what I had a 25 meter pistol target, black is 8 inches.
They are all black with no bulls eye so I tape a 2.5x2.5 cloth patch in the center to give my eye a point of aim.....pretty scientific huh.

Sorry, I didn't know that. There is lots of videos and information for doing that out there. I just thought it would help someone who lives in an area where it is hard to get BP so they could craft some themselves.

Being this forum is filled with information on how to make flints, bullets, etc, I figured that many old timers would probably give making their own powder a try too.
