What's the proper board thickness for a 32 cal Crockett rifle. 310 rb 15 and 18 thousand patch????? going to make me one.
 
For what it's worth. I'd use 3/8" .375" Your ball will be Approx. .320" in diameter, plus the patching, so that will give you about .040" of clearance between the patch and the loading table when you seat the ball in it.

This is no right or wrong thickness, just use whatever wood you have or prefer to use. Personally, prefer a bit thicker piece of wood (7/16” to 1/2”) for 32 caliber loading blocks so a counterbore that fits over the muzzle can be added to line things up while still protecting the patch and ball.

Here is something I posted before to explain the counterbore concept after I was feeling inspired for a few minutes while in the shop. I grabbed a 3/8” thick piece of high grade scrap pallet lumber, took a 7/8” spade drill and created a slight counterbore in piece of wood. Followed that up by drilling through the center of the counterbore a hole appropriate for a 32 caliber patched round ball. Then pushed a patched 1-1/2 buck into drilled hole so it protruded into the counterbore about flush with the surface of the wood and trimmed the patch material on the opposite side. Placed the 7/8” counterbore over the 13/16” across the flats muzzle of a 32 caliber rifle. Gave the patched 1-1/2 buck a solid push with the ramrod and it was seated in the barrel.

Took longer to type this than make the thing and take photographs.
