Yep Jess and I trampled, tripped, cussed our way through dense cover in search of woodcock and roosters.
It was Berti the topsy-turvy Beretta thingy muzzleloader today and when we did put a woodcock up I missed 🤦‍♂️. I rushed the shot!
Eventually Jesse's nose was sniffing the air in a tangle of weeds and stuff and up pops rooster #1, I didn't rush this time and killed it outright.

One barrel still loaded I pondered flighting woodcock as night came but just 100yds from the first pheasant Jesse's nose was pointing in a thick clump of bramble!
I stepped into it and #2 rooster raised cussing his head off at me. BOOM and he was done ✔

Three shot for two birds, I'll settle for that.
4.3 miles of exercise and I can not believe how warm it is. Shirt and open coat weather!
Well, playtime is drawing to a close. Soon back to work, that is, if I don't get covid!

I've got something I'd like to gift you but you have to say what it is first.
I got this item 30+ years ago from an old blanket trader that had it out. He told me if I could tell him what it was I could have it
for free,
I did and he gave it to me, I haven't used it for its intended purpose in all that time but you might.

No hints from other members please!

Must be a game carrier. Possibly one you can skewer the game with. My distant memory is telling me I have seen one like it before.
Thank you for your kind offer but there really is no need to send it here. Maybe someone closer to you.
🙂👍

You are correct, I have no idea how old the carrier is but it appears to be very old and hand-forged.
Closer is only the post office away and there aren't too many others on the site that hunt small game more than you do.
All I need you to do is PM me your mailing address and it will be going out next week.
The only thing I ask is when you receive it, show use a picture of you using it.

WTG Brit! Love your pics! Makes me want to go to England. Poor Jesse, ya got to remember he has twice a many legs as you to pump 4.3.

Another great hunt story. Sounds like you owe Jess both of those birds! She's certainly earning her keep! :thumb:

I'm about to start my small game season now. I like January/February small game. No one else is out. No bugs. Plus I have the added bonus this year in that I went into permanently self-induced "unemployment" at the end of my workday yesterday! Time to hit the woods! 😀 Tomorrow starts out at -15F and only gets to a few degrees above zero with North winds creating -35F windchills 😵, so perhaps Monday will be better.

Very nice,I do wish we had pheasant or some sort of game birds in Australia!

Thats an interesting game carrier,I'm guessing it hinges on the right ?

Not even dove? Wow, never expected that with such diverse fauna.
There's feral pigeons and indian turtle doves we can hunt and in south Australia some unprotected native birds, but there's nothing like pheasant or partridge. We can hunt ducks and native quail IF we have a season and IF we pass a WIT and IF we get a special licence to do so.
