.40 and some ideas

I'm wondering what ball size is most popular among .40 rifleman .
Maybe .395.

I have had best results with my 40 cal using .389” cast LRB’s with .018” pillow ticking lubed with mink oil.
9 consecutive shots at 25 and 50 yards without swabbing.

Most popular would be the .395's. That said, great results have been found using everything from .389..(see above..!) up to .400.
I use the .395's myself in my Rice barrel, and any shots outside a ragged one-hole group aren't caused by a tiny bit too much or too little lead. Them's are on me..!!

.395" was too tight in my Colerain barrel. .390's work great with .015" patch.

.389.... no idea why they weren't .390, but .395 was too big and the patch wasn't working with the .395, so the next size down that I could find was .389.

A .390" ball and heavy patch outshoots me! The only reason I'm not shooting a .395" is because I don't have a mold that size. I do have a .400" dbl cavity mold that I've not had a chance to use yet.
5 shots with a .390" ball at 25 yds.
