I have had best results with my 40 cal using .389” cast LRB’s with .018” pillow ticking lubed with mink oil.
9 consecutive shots at 25 and 50 yards without swabbing.

Most popular would be the .395's. That said, great results have been found using everything from .389..(see above..!) up to .400.
I use the .395's myself in my Rice barrel, and any shots outside a ragged one-hole group aren't caused by a tiny bit too much or too little lead. :doh:Them's are on me..!!
 
A .390" ball and heavy patch outshoots me! The only reason I'm not shooting a .395" is because I don't have a mold that size. I do have a .400" dbl cavity mold that I've not had a chance to use yet.
