I purchased this pistol and was wondering what charge I should use. The seller didn't know maker. He said it was 40 caliber but it is a .437 bore. It is a round barrel that twists of 4.25" Ling barrel.

So the twist off barrel pistols were designed to load from the back end (usually) using an unpatched ball. You inserted the ball into the back of the barrel and fill the rest of the cavity with powder. Then screw the barrel back on. You can load them from the muzzle with a patched ball also. My guess would be about 15 grains of powder. Check the bore size at the breech end and see if that is slightly larger, That would indicate it is meant to be loaded from the rear and my guess would be a .440 ball. Pictures would be helpful.

That’s a New Orleans Ace, and meant to be loaded with patched ball. I’ll look at the manual I have for mine and post up .
Thank you that would be wonderful
