The OP wads achieve a better gas seal. I've used them under REALs in my .50's and .54, and accuracy was improved and groups got much tighter.

In my 40 I'm using overpowder wads for BP cartridges from Mike Quality BP Wads. They seem to be working pretty good, only cost a penny a piece.
I shot next to a guy who uses folded printer paper, which i may try on my 54.
I have a REAL mold in 40, 54, 58 caliber. I live them

What do you use to lube these with? I have a brand new, unfired Green Mountain 15/16" .40 , blued and with sites and ramrod I picked up some time back. Also, do you make .40 cal roundball. Would you want to trade for some if you do. If you shoot flinters, I have a pretty good bag of Black German knapped flints in 1/2" and some 5/8" I could trade.

Update on Conicals:

I got to the range with my .40 Flinter. These conicals shot very well at 25 yards with 55 grains FFFg Swiss and a lubed wool wad. Shot right along side and in the same group as the round balls. Appeared very stable out of my 1:48 twist barrel.

Hi ETerry,

Would sure be interested in some .40 caliber conicals myself. Turner Kirkland had a mould in the Dixie catalog a long time ago and have been wanting one ever since.

I would be interested in some also if you have anymore available thank you
