Hi all,

I am looking for sources of lead bullets for the new .45 percussion rifle I am putting together. Casting my own is right out. Wife say no, and I'm not really keen anyway. Barrel will be a GM with 1:28. Looking for both hunting and target suitable bullets. My state says all lead only.

Thanks.

Track of the Wolf has the T/C style, the Hornady Great Plains bullet and a minnie ball in .45 cal: http://www.trackofthewolf.com...bleList.aspx?catID=2&subID=25&styleID=65

Buffalo Arms (buffaloarms.com) in Idaho carries pre-cast & swaged bullets in a 1:20 tin/lead mix in a variety of weights & styles. They are mainly used for BPCR shooting, but would be suitable for a ML bullet gun. They come in .459" diameter, so would need to be sized down before loading. In my .451 rifle I size my bullets to .452", which allows for easy starting. Lead bullet sizing dies are available from Lee that will fit in your reloading press.

If TC .45cal/255grn Maxi-Hunters were any more accurate than they are in TC's 1:48" twist barrels I couldn't stand it...and devastating on deer...let us know if you try any in the faster 1:28"

Black Jack Hill offers a variety, including some things it's difficult to find other places (e.g. already cast Lee REALS).

Tod, I've had really good luck with the T/C Maxi's. You might give them a try. If they shoot well for you, Blue Grouse will cast them for you for $2 a pound if I remember right.

I used to have a 1 an 48 twist blueridge in 45 that shot TC maxie balls like a mother!! but the only down fall was excessive lead fouling that I combated by using med steel wool wraped around my jag during the cleaning process.
where do you hunt in MT, my soon to be wife and I are going to resettle in the yaak vally where I have land, CO is getting way to busy :cursing:
ohya does MT have a muzzleloading only season?
I wasen't aware of one up in lincoln county

I have been hunting near White Sulphur Srings. Lotsa of white tail out there. Mulies too, but WT are more challenging and more tasty. There is also n abundance of antelope, with the occasional elk.

There is no muzzleloading season, but there are areas that are restricted to muzzleloaders, converntional pistol and shotgun. One of the places I go is about 5 minutes away, and is full of mule deer. In MT, you shoot BP because you like BP, not to take advantage of any special season.

Restrictions are .45 caliber and above - that's about it. I hunted with my .50 flinter, a friend used his .50 in-line with scope. No kills with BP, but much fun was had.

Hay Tod,
I diden't think MT had a muzzlestuffer season but no matter, When I go to the Yaak in the fall for my get the heck outta Dodge before winter, I bring my 36cal blueridge and buy a small game tag and have a blast trekkin' and huntin' four types of grouse and bunnies, yummie.
I am thinking of maby looking at land around Anaconda area, It lookes to be a good location for a hunting and fishing guide. I am little nervous about the close proximity of Butte and other cities( I need elbow room ) Whats your opinion on this.
