My son and I went hunting this morning in southern Illinois. Got this guy with .440 ball, .15 patch, 60 grains of 3f.
Let me add that I just got that .45 caliber rifle at an auction about a month ago for $136 dollars. It served us well today! My son and I went hunting this morning in southern Illinois. Got this guy with .440 ball, .15 patch, 60 grains of 3f.

This buck was chasing 3 or 4 does through the woods just behind our buddy stand. He paused just for a moment about 15 or 20 yards from us. That’s when he was shot. You can see the entry wound above his shoulder and rifle in the picture. He went down rather quickly, ran about 30 or 40 yards then dropped. When field dressing him we retrieved the round ball. It didn’t go all the way through him, but killed him quickly nonetheless. You should have no problem killing a deer with a round ball. Good luck!Cool! Nice buck.
May I ask details of the shot? I'm curious because I'm switching to my .45 T/C Cherokee for deer. I always like to hear how a deer reacted to a roundball because I'd rather use them (even though I had a bad experience once).
