Sorry for the delay but I took Stringbean (the 45 cal longrifle)out to play this past weekend. I used the WWF to clean the bore of the rifle....plug flash, pour an amount down the bore swih back and forth then dry the bore, works good without over cleaning the bore.I used nothing this time but an older Goex superfine fff black powder .I could get seven to eight shots before getting a resistance in pushing the PRB down but never a failure to seat from to much crud. I have ordered some Old Eynsford powder to try also.

You will like that Ode Ensford powder. I have a .40 cal. and it was getting a hard fouling ring right at the top of the powder column when I was using 3fff KIK. I went to 2ff Olde Ensford and it solved my problems. I can now shoot 10 to 15 times in a row without running a patch down. I have a nylon bore brush that I used last time out and it worked great, I just ran it up an down 2 or 3 times then dumped the fouling out (which was A LOT less than 3 to 4 shots with my 3fff Kik. The 2ff Olde Ensford is about the same size as my 3fff Kik powder so I doubt I'll try 3fff Olde Ensford. Btw, I used 40 grains as my load.

I will gat a nylon brush and give it a try..40 gr in the 45 hit on target at 60 yrds, tried 50 gr a couple of times but the rifle seemed to loose the crack sound when it discharged..Fergot to take my chronograph to clock the loads ..Oh well save that for next time. Speaking of the time I am going to try the WWF lubed patch and see how it does as long as I am going to shoot it rat den.

When I started out in this game I didn't have anyone to teach me the ins and outs so I struggled along until a group in my area set up a shooting club and I joined, those ladies and gentlement shot all day long at our shoots and never lubed a patch with any thing but spit. They would stick the patch for the next round in their mouth and then load the powder, out came a nice wet patch and the ball was loaded. I've shot this way for dozens of rounds and never had any difficulty getting the patched ball down the barrel. I would not load this way if hunting where the gun was going to be loaded for any length of time, but for shot after shot in one setting it works just great, and those were some very accurate people, I of course wasn't, but that's my case with any firearm, never was much good, but sure love to shoot and don't want to have to stop and clean the bore between shots, or any time during my shooting session. Now this is just my two cents worth, it worked and it works great for me, have no intention of trying to use any commertial lub during my shoots.

Not enough info for a proper answer, except to say this..... Barrel fowling is a function of your load. Patch/ball/lube. A tightly patched, properly lubed load will not foul your barrel.

I can shoot literally all day without running a cleaning patch, unless the gun sits for a while.

A loosely patched load, will fowl consistently, shot to shot.

This all assumes that you have a good, unpitted barrel.
Hope this helps

This advice is on the money

Thanks the next time I go a plinkin I already have some thicker patch materal and will load a little tighter and pack a tech harder.
