Just wondering what others are using in theirs. I just bought a Used .45 Ky flint pistol at Friendship, In.. Paid 70.00 . It's an ol Dixie. I went out and shot it a week ago. I started out with 25 gr.s 2F at 15 paces 440 ball and pillow ticking spit patch. It shot pretty well. I only had about three owner induced miss-fires. I plan on browning the barrel and refinishing the stock this winter to match my rifle. :v

I've had great luck with 3f in my Kentucky pistol. I learned quickly to stay away from anything other than real black powder (i.e., Pyrodex) but have done pretty well with 25 all the way up to 40 grains of 3f in the barrel.

Keep the Ffg for bigger bores and go find you some Fffg. I shoot 40 grs. of that, a .440 ball and .018 patch. Cuts cloverleafs off a bench at 25 yards. Offhand.....well.....we ain't gonna talk about that too much. I would do OK in a duel but we ain't talkin' "minute of squirrel". More like "minute of man".

I don't have a flinter, but I shoot 25 grains FFFG in my T/C Patriot .45. 20-25 makes for a sweet target load. If you only have FFG, you might try upping that to 30-35. I've tried FFG in mine but it doesn't do well at all. Burns too slow, throws a lot of unburned powder, and isn't consistant.

I have a .45 cal. CVA Kentucky caplock pistol. I get good groups with 20 grains of 3Fg behind a .440 ball and pillow ticking/moose milk. These guns are a lot of fun and cheap to shoot.
