He was farther than I'd have liked... I had been practicing out to 100 yards and let's say it came in handy!

The farthest I've killed a deer with a .45 was 75 yards. The load was a .440" ball (prb) over 65 grains of Goex; through and through penetration. The real question you should ask is "what's MY farthest, ethical range with a .45"? A .45 prb will kill a deer much, much farther than you should ethically shoot. Your max range with a prb is the farthest you can hit a soccer ball with 10 consecutive shots be it 25 yds, 50 yds or 125 yds.
