My Parker-Hale .451 Volunteer rifle....I rolled up 20 paper cartridges, with .451 bullets and 90gr of OE 3f.
The cartridges are long......very long. They fit in none of my cartridge boxes.
So....I found that a wooden block from a cheap Indian 45-70 cartridge box fit perfectly inside a cheap Indian .58 cartridge box. The cartridges fit perfectly in the holes and are secure.
I put the rear sight ladder from my Parker-Hale P53 on this, and used the windage adjustable ladder on the P53. I drifted the front blade today and got it to where I put up a decent group low and right. A few more taps on the front sight , after I confirm it's the sight and not me pulling right, will get the POA dead on. I used a "fine sight " picture for 100 yards.
The cartridges work well, I abandoned my plans to scope this with a Malcolm, or use a tang sight and globe....I'm just going to shoot it with Iron sights. It's a ton of fun just like it is now.
The #11 nipple from TotW works well and I can use easy to find CCI Magnums that gave reliable ignition.
The lubed .451's get a bit sticky in the bore after 3 shots. I have used .450's in this and had been able to shoot 10 or more without wiping , and was still accurate. I will be sizing to .450 next time. 20 cartridges for this hard kicking rifle is plenty , if I want to bring more I'll start making 10 round bundles and putting them in my range bag.
