My bad. Too much Covid Crap and politics on my mind.

I really meant to ask if the .454 balls could be shot in my 44 Cal revolver in lieu of .451 balls.

Sorry for the stupid mistake.

I use .457” balls in my Remington. But the chambers have been reamed to .449” and chamfered. From far too much reading I see a lot of competition shooters choosing a .457” ball, and have seen a couple of posted instances where when the ball size went up and all else stayed the same the results were a faster ball, which tells you the friction was greater to give such an improvement. I’ve also seen how through the Pietta 1863 with grossly undersized chambers that the normal ball was pathetic, but when an oversized ball as used it suddenly improved. More hearing surface to obturate seems to be the idea there where the smaller ball couldn’t completely fill the grooves.

I used .451" balls in my Remmy 1858 c&b I used to own. When I got a Rogers & Spencer I needed the larger .454" as the .451" didn't seal the chambers.
