Took a trip to Chicago this past monday, I went to the Bass Pro shop in Gurney to look for #4 or #5 shot. Besides not having the shot in the size I wanted the .490 round balls as well as all the other sizes were 19.99 a box. What the hell is up with that, do they feel they are better than everyone else who sell it for 15.00 a box or less? Yes I know that lead has gone up in price, but not that much. Also just on a side note no reall powder just the subs.

Try Rush Creek Sporting Goods 937-468-7713. Have always been reasonble on price. They re at Dixon's until after Friday.

Well, they do not discriminate, I went to the one southeast of Dallas and the prices are the same.
Yes, enough to make a person ill.

I stopped at a Gander Mountain and did find .315 and .350 for $2.99 per box for Hornady. There are none left, ah the Gold Card.

In all honesty, I stop at gun stores that I have not been in before to see what is on the shelves.
I have found some surprising buys.

By golly it may just be time for you to start casting your own RBs. Casting your own adds to the hobby. There is a pride in shooting your own and the act of casting is really rather pleasant.
For what Bass Pro is asking you can get a used Lee mold on ebay and a couple of pounds of lead from a scrap yard.
Currently I cast for a .32, .36, .45,50, 54,and a .58. If I had to buy RBs for all of them I would go broke but casting makes shooting affordable .

Looks like its going that way its just crazy that they want that kind of money for them. I will order enough from Eddie may to get me by for awhile them start getting the stuff I need to mold my own.

The Gander Mountain's in Indiana are selling .490 RB for just under $10 a box.

I cast 100 balls in .48 yesterday...the lead was given gratefully by my dentist..Hank

Well,I love to walk around a BPS,but I think
everything is overpriced. At least I have never seen anything I wanted that I couldn't get cheaper
somewhere else.IMHO At times you may get some good
buys on R/Bs at Wally World. Some though, wouldn't even know what you were talking about....
snake-eyes :hmm:

Here in Nebraska where the Hornady company resides. A friend of mine who lives just about 2 miles for the factory in Grand Island, recently told me, that the going price for a box of 100 RB is around the $10 mark. Been that way for some time. Area of the country really doesn't matter...EXCEPT when you start paying that over blown shipping and handling charged by some on-line shops etc :bull: .

I was at bass pro last week and was going to buy .45 round balls till I saw the $19 price. I ordered them from Cabelas for $10.99. I bought a powder horn from a guy on ebay and he sent me about 500-600 round balls for my .50 cal. free of charge. A really nice fellow to boot. I should be set for a while.

Great falls montana, price is still 7.99 for .45 rb and 8.99 for .50 rb.

But I got a great a score at the steel recycling yard this week, scrap lead sold is a buck a pound, had this new lil' gal (maybe 100 lbs soaking wet!) working in the scrap section...going through the lead pile found a bunch of linotype allready moulded down into lyman squares and a number of soft leads as well ...well when we got to the weigh scale was about 40 pounds more than i had planned on...needless to say she wrote it up as 40 pounds instead of eighty...she say you take from here for that and I dont have to carry it back and put it away....worked good for me...>50 cent a pound for lead that worked out to be....

Prices sure have changed from when I used to sell hand cast lead ball from my blanket at Friendship for 4 dollars for 100 ball.
The advise to get a mould and cast your own ball is sound advise and a savings to you in the long run.
