I really do not see the point of doing this. But, it is your pistol and your hand so do whatever you think best.

At worst it will kick more, with that short barrel the extra pressure will drop fast , could hurt though let us know for sure if you can still type :)

for those of you who are still saying this is a bad idea... please read my posts above. the pedersoli manual actually tells you to use 4F powder in the gun. also as stated by Medic302, the gun onley holds 10 grains of powder. we arent exactly talking about high pressures here.

as to the point of using 4F powder. last time i went shooting we found that the balls were bouncing off the 1/2" sheet of ply wood that we were hanging targets on. i desire at least enough power to punch threw 1/2" ply wood at 3 yards.

Sounds like you got the wrong gun for what you want. Take a look at some of the pistols for sale on the Forum "Guns For Sale". You will find a pistol with enough power to do what you want. Your little screw barrel pea shooter should be saved for shooting paper targets posted on cardboard boxes. You just can't make a Shetland pull a plow.

With all due respect - you seem to have it all figured out already. What are you asking and why are you asking it?

You ask if it's a "bad idea", then argue when people say yes.

The Lyman Black Powder Handbook thirteenth printing 1999 has loads of 4f in 31, 36, 44, 45cal- pages 70-81, handgun caliber cap and ball. I will not say what the loads are but if you have the book they are there. Per the book 100 more fps in the 31 cal of 3f vs 4f.

Have not tried it but it is a published handbook from a pretty reputable company. Just saying.

FFg, FFFg and FFFFg chrono tests might be an interesting project for some lower capacity percussion revolvers.
Is FFFFg more energetic than 777?

i would assume 4F would be more energetic then 777. i wish i had a chronograph cause id test 3F vr 4F in the little puppy. from reports the gun should be able to shoot threw 1/2" ply wood at close range. i dont ever expect this gun to be "powerfull" just stronger then a red rider BB gun.

went to the range today with my Jaeger so i took the little screw pistol along with me.

i loaded the little pistol out of the same priming flask i use for my Jaeger. 4f is a little more snappy then 3f but nothing major. either way the pistol isnt easy to hold on to. i actually spent a little time trying to hit a target with the little gun which proved to be a real challenge. the little gun shoots VERY high, probably about 30" above point of aim at 7 yards. i did notice that 3F tended to shoot even higher then 4F.

either powder its a fun little gun to shoot. i will have to play with it some more and see if i cant at least form some kinda grouping at 7 yrds.

Those derringers were true belly guns intended for very close range. I can hit a paper plate with mine at 2 or 3 yards and I'm happy with that.
