I want to get a few anodized or otherwise hard aluminum range rods in 5/16" diameter. I can find them easily in 3/8" but the places I've already checked with only have 3/8" stock, no 5/16".

Thought I'd check with the Forum to see if anyone "knows" a place that can make 5/16" hard aluminum range rods.

(PS: I don't need a list of try here or try there places...I already have a whole list of places to try...just hoping to save a lot of time by asking if anyone "knows" a place who makes 5/16" hard aluminum range rods)

Thanks

I see them at my local ACE hardware.

Ace Hardware??

Thought you were looking for raw materials.

I make a range rod out of steel or brass in about 30 minutes. Would be about the same time to make an aluminum one. What are you willing to pay?

Got some shipped from fleabay.About 1/3 the price of locals.I was concerned about bending in shipping but boxed well and no problems.

Yeah, buddy! They look pretty darned nice and the prices are good, too. If I was in the market for a rod, I'd be firing off an order to them right now. Be sure to get a muzzle protector for each rod. :hatsoff:

Always.
I've been using Outer's regular jointed rifle cleaning rods dedicated to different size bore brushes and am just replacing them with solid one piece aluminum rods...for my purposes, brass was unnecessarily heavy / overkill for a brush

I have three brass range rods. I actually like them. I also have a couple of aluminum rods but they are for the same caliber rifles as the brass rods so they do not get used. I have one Delron rod. I got it for my .32 rifle before I knew how flexible Delron was. I found that it is too flexible so I just keep it in the closet. Using that darned thing was like trying to stuff a wet noodle up a wild cat's......uh.....well.....you know. :haha:

All my ramrods and range rods are brass as I like the no nonsense strength & power. I just use the aluminum ones with brushes to hold the patch I slip down into the patent breeches for cleaning/drying/lubing...too much hassle exchanging rod tips.
(after all, time is of the essence now that I'm retired, LOL)

I just use the wooden RRs...have for years w/o a problem or any complications. Simple is better?....Fred

Well good for you.....but the thread is about 5/16" aluminum rods.

I read your post wrong. I thought you were looking for rods to make one. :surrender:

Yup...a solid brass range rod for loading, and an aluminum "wiping" rod for running the bore between shots, and general cleaning.
I like to seat my patch/ball with one long stroke and a little more "authority" during a range session.

:rotf:
but all the other modern things YOU personally use are OK ?
:shake:

The most simple of questions specifically asking where 5/16" hard aluminum range rods might be made and predictably:

One guy had no clue but just had to say:
"they wouldn't be his first choice"
Another has no clue but just has to say:
"wood is simpler"
You have no clue who makes them but you just have to say something, :rotf:

Reading comprehension.

Exactly...99% of mine are brass...just replacing a few "jointed" aluminum rods ( not shown ) with solid one piece rods

Nice looking rods :hmm: are those nylon bore guides?
If I had a question about traditional muzzle loading accessories then I would ask folks on a traditional forum.
If I had a question about modern muzzle loading accessories then I would ask folks on a modern muzzle loading forum.
I don’t ask my doctor how to tune my car either.
