OK fellow Nimrods---Your given a list of rules for the shoot. This set of rules reads longer than a DMV billboard & includes the clubs standard safety and vendor rules.

Rules state 5 shots at the target.

BUT, some where along the trail this gets changed to 5 on paper.

Some folks take many shots to hit the paper--more than 5.

You, after missing a target turn it in with only 3 or 4 scoring.

Joe Schmoe the local guy knows this is how they play but this is not announced. (Must have been for gotten)

Naturally you were a bit confused when you fired a few for practice and the 5 required as the rules stated, finished and watched others shoot the entire 30 minutes.
Icing on the cake was to hear we're only counting holes on paper after you were done with the relay.
This really simmers especially after you sat and had the CLUB RULES read to you like you were a 5 year old..among other things.

So fellas what ya think?
Those who shot till they got on paper get to keep the spoils of war OR they should be disqualified?

Bill

I use to shoot in in a monthly postal shoot, and the rules were 10 shots at the target, I shot it till I found people were shooting till they had 10 shots on paper. The answer to your question-- DISQUALIFIED!

BPB,
...KARMA! bad karma on those that don't play by the rules implied or expressed.
Some of us are men of honor and our word or handshake is all we need.
My vote would be the first 5 shots, hit or miss. Call it cold gun if you will.
I have encountered what you have experienced and now deal with it as "they" know they played bad and will have to live with it. Karma WILL come around and bite them in the bum.
I pretty much treat them like an unwanted stepchild, they rarley swim, usually sink.

Take pride in knowing you did it the right way!

It's 5 shots AT the target. If you miss, you miss. Once had something similar happen to me. Was on the line and shot a 49-3x. At the time, it would have put me in the lead. Fellow comes over and procedes to put 3 extra shots on my target. Opps, too bad. Now my score is a 27. :cursing: I can reshoot the target but I'm so ****** off I can hardly load straight let alone shoot. later a friend over hears someone being told they did a good job keeping that fellow from beating John. Last time I was ever at that club.

...I'm thinkin' I'd a had to get sideways with this guy in the parking lot and put those 3 hits back on his "target". not the right thing to do, but... karma will bite you in the bum.

That was a nasty thing to do to you. If someone pulled that stunt at my club it would be a race to see who could throw the bum out first. We might just drag the jerk back in a few times just to toss him back out.

This is a common problem - about the only way I know to curb it is to: have a can (tuna or cat food cans works great) on the line for each shooter. Have each shooter place 5 balls in the can (remember this is on the ground at their feet). Then remind all that the range officers will be keeping track of each shooter. Not fool proof but hopefully will help curb the human need to have a heavy pencil (nice way to say "cheat").
hope this helps - Wart

p.s. - by having each shooter have 5 shots - any targets with extra shots on them will be scored by the 5 best shots. The extra will be taken off the score of the person next to him/her that has less than 5 shots on the target. Believe me, your gonna upset shooters but in the long run, the word will get around that your club has rules and they stick to them - if you choose to shoot there, you better make sure you follow them.

I like the way you think! If someone cant play by the rules, let them take their balls and go home(.) :rotf:

Oh man... don't even know what to say. I can't even imagine someone doing that.

I put a round in a guys target last year. I had line up on mine, then stepped back to let another guys pass.
Turned around and lien up but was just enough off my mark to take aim on another gus target.
Boom I shoot and cut a solid 9..DRAT! not my target.
I immediately left and told both the range master and the fellow shooter.
Cost me 9 points--

I not just talking you take it for granted it is 5 or 10 shots per target. You read it in the rules.. 5 shots
THEN I hear it is shoot till you have 5 on paper??

Not a extra few at the practice target in between.

That is what is cooking my shorts...

Regards,
Bill

I have traveled to several shoots and found a lot of odd rules that only the locals knew. I have decided that this is just the home field advantage and moved on from there. I also ask about such odd rules when I show up.

My old club used the 5 on the paper, but announced this fact up front. We also were pretty unmerciful in ribbing any who had 6 on their targets.

At our club we fire 13 shots and count the best 10 on paper. If theres only 7 on the paper bad luck. Some prefer to shoot a 'clearance' shot prior to competing. Thats done before everyone else begins.
We have an unwritten rule, you take out 13 balls (14 if a clearing shot is used) and have them open for viewing by spectators and other competitors. You cant see every-ones balls but you can see the fellows either side. This also gives an idea if youre loading too fast (rushing shots) or too slow.
We had a chap last shoot who rarely shoots BP, standing at 50 yards put 10 shots in less than a
3" group with 2 flyers at about 5", his 13th shot couldnt be found, he and his father assured us the 13th shot was in the 3" mess. We could find no evidence of this but took his word on it. He won the shoot by 3 points. :hmm:
Two honest men, both good shooters, no evidence.... but their word is worth more than a win. :v
Smokey.

Bill:
My first thought is that if it takes a guy more than 5 shots to put 5 shots on the paper, he is not going to be very competitive compared to the guy who can lump all five in a 3" circle everytime. If you fall into the later group, your skill will blow this kind of shooter away most every trip of the train.

Sounds like the locals railroaded you!! So go back and give it to them good the next time. Wyo does not generally allow spotting scopes and such, so it is 5 shots down range country, our neighbor to the south Colo, allows spotting scopes and there it is 5 shots on paper. I too also ask about the local rules and have learned to be very specific in my questions to insure that I play the game their way as I am their guest. I've had rules changed in the middle of a match to keep me as disadvantaged as possible(or so they hope) and prizes swapped out to keep me from getting anything of value. There are sorry assed people in this world and if they need to do these things for there own self, some where along the line it will come back and bit them.

If you get them limited to 10 shots, they'll probably creep up on the target to a range they know they can hit from. :rotf:

bill, the clubs biggest problem w/ shoots is that shiny new Cadillac that up for 1st prize!...well you'd think they was shootin fer a caddy! :rotf: RC

We have a similar expression of people who play for sheep farms, the real issue is when people carry pens in there top pockets to put those extra holes in the paper!!

But is it five pops at the Grizzly bear charging at you or do you get to keep shooting until you've got five good hits? I think the shooter who turns their pops into hits is coming out ahead/alive/should win....

Actually, I was just quoting the old rule. I like to set 5 balls in a cap box so that I do not forget and lose count.
