Does anyone use the 50 cal 250 or 320 grain Lee REAL bullet for deer hunting.
If so what powder charge and do you use an over powder wad.

I've only used RB in 50 cal for deer, but I've shot the 320 REAL quite a bit. My rifle prefers 80 grains of Goex 3f or Pyrodex P. It definitely shoots better with a lubed felt wad. Ought to be dandy for deer, but I just haven't tried it.

I have used both and liked the 250g better, but still like balls best. That was in a Lyman Deerstalker with a 1 in 48" twist, and 80g of Pyrodex RS and felt wad.

yeah I have the Lee 'combo' 250gr real and rball mold. I've had good results with the real over 72gr 3F and a felt. still experimenting. this is my CVA 1-48 twist .50.

The 250 grainers were tack drivers from my .50 TC at 50 yards. At 100 yards they opened up to over 12" :shocked2:

My rifle has a 1-28 twist. The 320 gr REAL shoots ok but not great. I used 100 gr of pyrodex select RS and a wool felt over powder wad. I could not get better than 3.5” groups at 100 yards. If I were to keep my shots to 100 yards or less, I think the REAL’s would be a good bullet. The meplat is not very wide so I am not sure how it would do on game but I am sure it would work for deer. I use them in my Traditions PA hunter and they work well for me. I use 65 gr of 3F for hunting. Make sure you have a sturdy starter!

I use them in my .50 Woodsman Hawken with stainless barrel, 1 in 32" ROT. With 75 grs the rifle groups really fine. I fyou use them in a rifle with longer twist like a 1 in 48" or 1 in 66" then take a higer charge.
