Don't you raise the rear sight up to lower the front sight? Lowering the front sight would bring down the point of aim? Just asking.

.010 Patch and .490 ball. 70 to 80 grains of 2F or 60 to 70 3F. This should be your starting point. You may end up using a .015 or .018 patch but start at one combo and work with that until you get your groups tightened up.

Sight... Definitely was changed out and is far too small. The guys already told you that a blade Patridge will match up. You can easily find replacement sights at numerous vendors from ebay to... if you want a Fibre front, try this as they're easy to install.

His front sight is too short. He needs a higher front if the rear is bottomed out. Raising the rear sight will increase the over shot as in hitting even higher.

If we one his target distance we could identify the height needed but a standard TC front sight or to soec replacement will work fine.

You might want to check the straightness of the barrel. I bought a Renegade from a guy for $175 and it was like new. I thought why did the guy sell it so cheap. I took it to the range and had the same exact problem as you. I started looking into different sights but before buying anything I thought to check to see if the barrel was straight. Sure enough it was bowed. So I took a couple of 4x4s and my hydraulic press and straightened it out. Now it shoots great. It’s worth checking before you spend any money on sights that still might not solve the problem.

That's the Partridge/post style. The link in my above post from Track is the correct replacement to match that rear sight if that's the route you wish to take. It's only ten bucks Murican but is a cast part that may need fitting but isn't difficult.
The originals are still on Evilbay for 35 bucks-ish but they should fit as is providing someone hasn't altered the dovetail on you barrel.

The rifle is just hitting high. If the round dropped a foot it would be dead on.

I did use a .490 ball with a .015 lubed patch over 70 grains of Pyrodex RS. It dropped the point of impact about three inches.

Yes. Sabots are for a fast twist barrel. 1-26 or something like that. The TC'S are made to shoot Conicals and Round Ball

The front sight in the pic he posted is nearly a third shorter or more than the TC blade. Without also changing the rear that rifle will shoot high. Been there myself.

The sighting rule is Front Opposite - Rear Same.

The front sight needs to be raised to lower the point of impact.

The Kibler build vids cover fitting the dovetails on his kit rifles as the sights come as castings, the Colonial for sure has this. There are others on YT as well.

The correct factory front sight will get you fixed up. If you decide you want a factory front sight, feel free to send me a pm with your address and I’ll send you one on the house.

Also for the record there is nothing wrong with shooting sabots if you’re satisfied with the results. Shoot what you like. Round balls, conicals and sabots are all up to whatever flavor you desire.
