Haven't done it myself. But I'd have no reservations on using a .50 muzzleloader for pigs. Only problem I'd have is my wife likes pork & hates feral pigs. So she insists I take a CF rifle when I hunt them. Anything else, she reasons, is just playing around.

A sidearm is still a good idea, though. Same with bears. Healthy ones are going to book it as soon as they know you're there. Wounded ones are the ones that make me nervous. If I'm tracking into thick brush, the rifle gets slung and the pistol goes in-hand. Haven't needed it yet, thankfully.

Here is a big boar I got a couple of years ago with a 44-300 grain XTP.

i will say I shot a even bigger one last year and I should have put one in his ear hole as we never did find him. That shoulder armor is real and the thick hair blood will clot up and make trailing next to impossible.
