Wow - what a difference a little cosmetic TLC can do! Beautiful finish -- looks like the hardwood took the stain well. As I recall, some here have opined that can be a problem with some CVA stocks.

well I let it sit for three days with a heavy coat of minwax stain drying near the fireplace before I buffed it out
I did it that way specificaly because Zonie warned me the wood CVA used in these pistols would be hard to stain.

CVA stocks have a habit of coming out blotchy looking when stained. Ya did a great job Cynthia!

Nice work Ma'am! Still have mine in the original box since Christmas of '81. Hope to put it together next year sometime.
an unbuilt gun in the house would drive me to distraction
How you have been able to let it sit for so many years is unfathomable to me. :haha:

I was ten when I got it and had no idea how to put it together. In my teens I gave it to a cousin who said he'd put it together for me and never heard from him again. I mentioned it to my wife earlier this year, she found out who had it and got it back after 22 or so years.

Other than a couple of missing screws, 1 of each kind and the butt cap, which I lost way back then, it's all there. Enjoy yours and let us know how it shoots.

Cynthia, make a 45 grain measure and put a line inside of it at about 30 grains. If a Possum Cop asks you what load you are using you can show him the 45 grain measure. However when you are loading it, don't fill it all the way. Or carry an adjustable measure.

Well I took her out to shoot this morning. It is no longer a virgin gun.
30 grains of 3F, over powder fiber wad, .015 prelubed patch, .490 round ball is the load I decided seemed to shoot best. Shooting offhand as my 'bench' is buried under 2 feet of snow. So I ain't sure that is the best load for it, but it hits the target with that load consistantly.

Ussualy I shoot BP guns without ear plugs. I don't think I will do that again with this pistol. It barks loud!

I used that same load and I get a one hole group at 15 yards with the flint pistol. My .45 percussion shoots that load well too

oops I don't use a wad just 30 gr's 3fpowder and a .015 patch lubed with wonder lube grainy side of the patch against the ball and smooth side of the patch against the bore.
