I use oversized dry wool wads made for the .54 in the .50 caliber rifles. Oversized is the keyword, 50 in the .45, .45’s in the .40, etc… some folks like a lubed wad, which is fine for target shooting but for hunting rifles a dry wad works great.
Several of my neighbors are sheep men and I have access to raw wool so years ago I experimented with just stuffing a golf ball sized piece down on the charge under the bullet. Works fine too.

Btw. I’m guessing those were tumble lubed with Alox. I have only used Alox with blackpowder a little bit and that many years ago. I wasn’t really encouraged to use it more. Maybe wipe lube those with a beeswax and tallow mixture. I don’t know how or if the Alox could be removed or even if it must be. The memory is fickle these days.

The Lee r.e.a.l. bullets have always shot good for me. Believe I'd strip & re-lube them though. Alox ain't real friendly with BP.

What these guys said. They look great to me. Will most likely shoot great, and a perfect weight to velocity size. I put a small cotton ball under a 50 cal card with the bullet on top for my hunting loads like that. But Karma has way more experience than I do and his program is probably better. Just trying to keep the powder from getting greased while hunting. Play around with this and charge volumes and you will find something good. SW

Yes but some re sizing needed with some bullet styles. I used a lee push through but pushed them base first and not far enough to size the front driving band. For cartridges like 45-70 i push all the way through.
