As that guy said " can't we all just get along?"
A seperate place for frequently asked questions would be nice. But, if a person is new to forum or BP, he may not know where to go or to what site.
I don't mind answering new person questions. A long time ago an older person answered my questions and got me more interested in this addicting behavior.

I ask questions I know I could use a search engine to answer for a simple reason.
I don't like talking to a machine. If I come to this forum to ask my question I will get answers from people who will be able to see the big picture. Many times the questions I ask have clues to stuff I don't even know I need to know. The experianced shooters pick up on this stuff when they see a newbie like myself asking questions and provide needed extra information. A search engine only looks at the words I use and looks for matches.
If I am talking to a human I can point in the general direction of something and call it a whatsit and if the person is experianced they will know what I mean. A computer just isn't able to do that.

Well said! :hatsoff:

Excellent! Well thought and well said! I don't like the thought that I may be irritating someone on a forum with my question but I'm willing to risk that if I want/need information from the people I most respect - the option is always there for them to avoid me and that is ok. I've been a collector and become somewhat knowledgeable on a certain milsurp rifle series; grown weary of seeing the same questions posed over and over again, often despite the fact that one of the 'stickies' gave the answer but answering the question for the thousandth time means that a thousand folks have the right answer and immediately so. I will not hold it as an offense if I receive a curt redirection to my question, that is a form of help too.

I have noticed that the 1800 fps seems to be near optimum, regardless of caliber, but this was the first time I have ever seen someone else mention it. Thanks, Dan

I usually just pass by those 'GPR .50..." questions without comment. But, that day it hit me as 'enuf is enuf'. As a former newspaperman and still a writer, it is my habit to look for answers on my own before (these days) going on forum. Google/Wiki/etc. are our friends.
So, ye found out I ain't perfect. :shocked2: Sorry. :v

Actually, this beginner question and followup discussion helped me too, and I've been shooting almost daily for the past 8 years. Through the discussion on powder charge and changes after shooting, you have stimulated me to go back to the bench and reassess my loads after heavy use of my gun. I now want to see if the extended use has changed the optimum variables. Also found the discussion about the velocity to be valuable. I measured a 1700 FPS last week on my long rifle with 60 grains of 3F and a .490 ball with a 0.2 patch. So I might amp up the powder volume and see what happens. Am going to order some 0.495 balls today too.

Thanks and don't get discouraged. I appreciate your collective opinions/knowledge/wisdom/experience on this thread. Keeps me from becoming complacent.

Lisle George
