A friend of mine just finished a TOTW .54 Cal. Flint Pistol with 9" barrel. Anybody have a favorite load??
Tom

I had a Great Plains .54 caliber with a 9-inch barrel that liked a .530 ball and a .015 spit lubed patch over 30 grains of Fffg. Good for putting holes in paper.

I have a Bondini .54 Hawken pistol that likes a .530 with a .015 patch or a .515 with a .024 patch over 20 grains of 3F.

You will probably have to mess around and see what load the pistol likes the best.

It was 15/16ths across the flats. I never shot anything but roundball with that pistol. I would be careful about shooting the REAL or similar conicals from a handgun unless you are pretty confident in the ability of the stock architecture to withstand the force without cracking. Good luck.

Since its likely got a fast twist something in the 25-45 grain range and a .530 ball and a thick patch. .018-.020.
