My coworker decided on a GPR as he wanted a flinter out of the box, good quality, but with a shorter barrel than a longrifle. Plus it was less expensive than a semi-custom or custom rifle.

The GPR rifle arrived with a lengthwise crack in the stock in the bottom of the barrel channel. My coworker wanted to know if he should repair the crack or send it back, and the distributor told him it had to go back to Lyman. Well he sent it directly to Lyman and they replaced the stock in less than a week.

Not too shabby, and it shoots very well.

That's the same experience with Lyman in our neighborhood. Don't often need service, but when needed it's quick and friendly. My pard got a kit with the stock inletted poorly, called, sent it back, and the guy who called back said "You'll be happy with what we're sending you." A few days later he got the replacement, and it's absolutely the prettiest piece of walnut I've ever seen on a "factory" gun. Wow. Yeah, he's a Lyman fan now.

Lyman.
Don't have a TC in 54 but in the 50's I have both and TC comes in a close 2nd.

The Pedersoli Frontier in 54 calibre has the same 7/8ths inch barrel that all the other Frontier calibers have. This makes the barrel walls really thin. This is not a safety problem as the patent type breech offers a good place for the touch hole liner to screw into. The problem will be with Mirage. The one I had after three shots in cool weather would have so much heat shimmer I couldnt shoot it any more until it cooled down. It sure was a handy gun though.
