Gizamo,
You would set a thing of beauty like that on those rough blocks without padding?! I hope it stays nice for you.

I thought the same thing. Ouch!

Nice rifle.

Is that tang sight the one that came with the rifle from Pedersoli? The ones I'm used to seeing with the Mortimer are the more traditional 'lollipop' style, yours looks like an interesting design.

That's a pretty rifle :v . Is that some sort of safety latch that is visible at the rear of the lockplate?

It is the sight that came with the gun

If you google Pedersoli Mortimer Target...you'll find Pedersoli's page with all the variations. They made quite a few...

Yes, that is a half-cock safety. It automatically releases as you pull the gun to full cock...

I can see why. That is gorgeous. Kind of the grandaddy of all of the later English sporting guns style wise.

The Mortimer is a great looking gun, congrats,I have one in 12 ga. Built like a brick house ! I really like them...... Happy shooting.

Mine is a .54 Rifle. There was a interchangeable shotgun barrel version available at one time. Would have been nice to have the other barrel...

Very nice rifle. How does it shoot?

say what point in time/history would that gun have been produced ? would it have been used in north america much ?
i like . with open sights it would make a good hunt,n gun .

That's a very late flint period lock--just look at the pan area for a moment. Pretty elegant I think. Probably not used much in the States, but might have been seen in Canada. A wealthy Englishman on a western hunt on the plains might very well bring a similar rifle with him.
