How would these work? .575 balls in a .58 bore. Seems like even with a thin patch these would be pretty tight.

There is a good deal on these balls over at ebay. But I dont want to buy them if they are gonna be a pain to load.

I have always used .570 in my .58's and I put .565's in my loading block while hunting, as they are easier to load with the rod that is in the gun. It will depend on your barrel dia.to what size you will be able to use.

Smoothbore yes, rifle probably way to thin of a patch would be needed, one way to find out...make some smoke.

I shoot .575 RB's in my Hawken rifles with a .017 pillowtickin patch with very good results. One is a ORION barrel and the other is a RICE barrel. The same combo works great in both rifles.

I use .575 ball with .005' patch in a Parker Hale Musketoon with satisfactory results at 50 yard

I would say that if you are trying to use them in a hunting scenario and or with a wood ramrod, you might not want to go to the 575's. I use them to get a good group in competition shooting but I am also using a stainless steel 7/16 ramrod to push them down the barrel!

I use the 575's with the .020 patching which is a good tight fit and one that yields great results in my Green Mountain barrel but I wouldn't want to have to depend on using my wooden ramrod all day long to load them either.
