SOG has this for sale I was wondering if they can be used with a 1853 Armi Sport 3band Enfield rifled musket?

I don't see why not. Unless they exceed the manufacturers recommendation on projectile weight.

Buy an try it, i have parker hale 3 band, got 3 molds for conicals, shoots round ball best,at a shoot recently a friend borrowed me some of his conicals as i forgot mine at home, shot like a house on fire, now i,m going to buy another mold when i get some sparemoney(that means money the wife does,nt know about)experiment with different loads an conicals till you have the perfect match, then start over, the fun is pulling the trigger an maken smoke

Worth experimenting if they are cheap enough. The original style minies reportedly work best however. At worst you can toss them in the melting pot when you cast up something else.

I'm not acquainted with your rifle, but in general terms if its twist rate is slower than 1:48, I doubt you'll be happy. Slower twist rates will stabilize hollowbased minies, but not a solid such as the Maxi, the TC Hunter, the Hornady Great Plains or the LEE REAL. TC still offers them prelubed in boxes of 15 IIRC, so you can compare the cost of those with the ones you're looking at to see if there's any savings.

The good news is that with 1:48 or faster, the Maxi is a stomper that can be really accurate. The ones in the pic will need to be lubed, and odds are 50:50 you'll also need to put a lubed felt wad between the Maxi and the powder for best accuracy.

While most true minies are limited to 60-80 grains of powder in order not to blow the skirt at the bullet base, the good news is that you can go lots higher with Maxi's and the other solid base. If your shoulder can take it! :rotf: I've gone up to 120 grains of 2f with solids and had stellar accuracy and flat trajectories, but launching them from the bench is kind of a religious experience.
