does anyone make a production ,58 rifle any more or is it all customs. the only one i can find is t/c custom shop at fox ridge. the only thing i dont think i would like is the qla. my rifle doesn"t have this and from what i am reading i would not want it. i have a .50 and would be looking for a mountain rifle . i read some good info suggesting a 58 for a mountain rifle. is this overkill or could i get a 54 and be happy. i don"t really mind recoil but i can tell you the 385 gr conicals i am using for elk can kick after a while.

I have a .58cal from GM...1" x 33" x 1:70" Flint barrel drop in for a TC Hawken stock...an absolutely outstanding barrel...check with Ed Cain at Cains Outdoor in West VA...if he's out, check with Tip Curtis Frontier Shop in Tennessee.

I have a .58 hawken that I ordered last september from Fox Ridge without the QLA.If you tell them you don't want the QLA,they won't put it in when they make the barrel.Took about 3 weeks to get it.
Good luck

.58 caliber factory guns aren't as common in recent years. It's a shame. I'm a .58 fan too. If you decided against a custom barrel, don't sweat it though. The .54 is plenty for elk and with a conical will have more than enough penetration.
