Try a few other barrel makers.

They are tough to come by, but there are a few out there.
I recently picked up an interarms hawken in .58 merely cause they dont make big bores anymore!

totw may have access to some barrels

The gun works in springfield ore. has a barrel maker associated with them

Deer creek does as well and might, just might be able to get one made up with TC breech plug and barrel lug...just maybe!

Post#802991 check out this post...few days ago! he got one from TC for 190 bucks! might be your ticket!

It's worth the search, but search you must. Brett has given good advice on places to look. Gotta say, once you try 58, there's no going back.

Mine is wearing a .58 Investarm barrel. I had to trim the underrib back slightly, but other than that, it dropped right in. Found it on Ebay cheap. You might set some email alerts there and maybe you'll get lucky and one will come by.

Knowing the way I am, I would do a quick search and try to find one. If I couldn't I don't like being in Never Never land.

I would then Contact Ed Rayl and have him build me one with a TC Breechplug, Install some good sights, and send it.

I like forward movement, not laying around waiting unless that is my only option.

I went through this drill in November. TC will get you a barrel in a few weeks if it is a standard item, i.e. 26" long, 1:48 twist with QLA. If you want one without the QLA it is a special order and can take several months.

Green Mountain offers drop-in barrels for TCs. They are 32", 1:70 twist. GM told me they would not have them in the production schedule until spring 2010 at the earliest. I think the lady I spoke too said they only had 30 or so on order so they were in no hurry to get them into production.

I currently have one on order from Midway. I placed the order in Dec. 08 and don't know if I will ever see it.

I did buy a Renegade with a GM58 barrel from a member who posted it on this forum and it is a great rifle.

The TC barrel will get you shooting quickest if you don't mind the 48 twist and the QLA. Many posters here think they are great and recommend them highly. They are only about $180.

Call Fox Ridge Outfitters at 800-243-4570 for info on the TC barrel.

I've got two TCs with the 1:48 twist (actually Big Boars) but no QLA. My hunting pard has one with the QLA. I've also got a couple of other higher priced 58's, including a real gem with a 1:70 twist. If there's a speck of difference between the five of them in accuracy, we sure haven't been able to find it in lots of shooting.

All theory aside, from practical real-life shooting standpoint, the whole 1:48 twist thing is one big fat paper tiger. In fact, I've learned recently that most original Hawkens and a lot of other guns back then were 1:48.

Same for the QLA, in accuracy terms at least.

If you want to get shooting sooner and cheaper, pick up the 1:48 QLA barrel. If you want to stand on shady theory and principle, order a slower twist without QLA. Then sit back and wait.
