50 yard half circleHow far did it go after that heart shot?
Too bad you wasted the heart and not the liver!
Good clean kill! Hope you weren't planning on the family eating heart.Smacked this one this morning
That’s why I aim for the center of the heart-lung “ football”. Usually taking out the aorta and both lungs. I like my pickled deer heart. I also hunt with a .58 cal flintlock rifle. Usually they go down in sight. BJHSmacked this one this morning
Some of you lads are having some wonderful hunts lately. That's a good amount of protein there @Buff1958. Great shot too - no use lamenting it; some meat loss is usually expected.Smacked this one this morning

I got one from a steep slope once killed it three times with one shot spine, aorta, lungs exit lower chest rt frnt leg , dead befor I heard the shot 25 to 30 yds. A very nice forked horn largest fork antlers I ever saw. Near Shelter Cove Calif . About 140# at final dusk, barely time to field dress. That’s why I aim for the center of the heart-lung “ football”. I shoot several muskets and use minie balls, for me my most accurate load is 60grs fffg with a 500gr Lyman minie. . It'll shoot under 3 moa all day.Is that the entry? What was the load and how far was the shot?
I'm planning on loading 125gr 2f in my 58 for my first hunt with it. I'm wondering what to expect at 50 yards on a deer. Similar to a slug, or total destruction?
