Not going to do a mount but I will do some kind of antler mount. I would rather spend the taxidermy money on a good flintlock, I've been wanting one bad for several years now. I just retired so maybe it's time to bye a TVM kit I will have plenty of time to work on one now. 😊
Wow.
Now that is a trophy I can get behind. I don't much approve of trophy hunts but this old man was served a mercy by you.
Far better to take a bullet in the vitals than to be torn down by coyotes.
All that grey makes him look wise. Would look good on the wall.
I like the fact that ya have his previous sheds and are going to hang with the rack.. I can't say that I've been able to do that. I can't seem to locate sheds to save my life!
GREAT POST BTW!
Now THATS a trophy buck, I don't care what he "scores" on the B&C scale. Thats what I dream of taking, an old 5.5 + year buck with battle scars. Congrats on an absolutely beautiful buck.
Reading these posts has reminded me how much hunters respect the game they hunt. In his life time this buck has seen his peers die on the highway and hung in fences as well as taken by predators. If he was given a wish as to how to go it was granted! Great buck and story!
Happy Holidays Paul and the old .58cal is still putting them down. Thanks buddy!
Thanks for the responses everybody and for looking at this thread. A lot of you have talked about respect for the game I hunt and I defiantly do and lucky to have a couple good spots I've been hunting for 20yrs. You get to know the animals you hunt year after year and each time they out smart you and a few misses in there too.
As soon as I get some time I will post a story of the buck I've been hunting for years that out smarts me more then any buck on my favorite ridge and i have more respect for then you can imagine. He was injured as a very young animal not sure how and he might have even been born this way. I thought about putting him down the first time we met but I'm sure glad I didn't. He runs around like ever other deer just looks a little different then most.
I have hundreds of picks of him now, he's a fighter a breeder and a very aggressive buck. He's 6.5yrs old now and made it through another season this is last years picture but I will share this years picks and every year in between in the thread. I have a bunch of picks I need to down load from this season.
