Speaking of primers, I also buy primers by the brick. Last summer I came across 500 CCI small pistol primers that I'd misplaced. They had been stored inside, outside in a building and many other places while I had moved from different houses due to job location changes and at least one divorce! They where about 25 years old and had mold on the boxes. I was going to dispose of them but was curious as to their condition. I used all of them and didn't have one misfire. I only used them in practice rounds but was still suprized that they where still good considering the storage conditions.

If you have any old powder or primers, they are unsafe. Please ship them to me and I will be glad to destroy them so that nothing bad happens. :hmm: :crackup:

The thought of powder being bad comes from the type explosive used in Dynomite. This type powder has nitro glycerine in it and this becomes very unstable after a period of time.
Black powder does NOT contain Nytro-glycerine.

:imo:The elements of BP are very stable and have a very long shelf life. I wouldn't be afraid to load and shoot BP no matter what age it is.

Great! I was going to ask about some GOEX podwer marked july/83 on the can. I have another can that just has a code on it. Both sealed tight and stored inside. Sound like it's still good. Thanks,....loojack :)

FYI...Goex date codes break down as shown in the following example: 01N013B

01=2001
NO=November
13=13th day
B=B shift at the plant

I have two old cans of Goex that still shoot just like the day they were bought:

FFFg - 91FE14B - Hey! My 3F was made on Valentine's Day! :crackup:

FFFFg - 87MA27C - 'Zat old enough for ya? I'll probably have it ANOTHER 17 years at least... still feels like a full pound to me!

Shoot it by all means, I have a couple of pounds that's been in a garage ever since it was purchased 10 years ago and it is fine. If it gets damp, bring it into the house for a couple of weeks with the cap loose and it will dry out and be find.

If you want to safely get rid of it. It makes good grass fertilizer and be sure of sprinkling after you spread it around or it's also good for melting snow off the driveway, but it will temporarily turn the color of the cement. :D

shoot it. Some of mine (Goex) was stored away from December 1988, fired October 2004 with no problems.
