I scored yesterday with an original 1842 Springfield rifled musket. I've owned it for a number of years, but this is the first season I've hunted with it. Say what you want about New Jersey, but we have a great muzzleloader season!

Congrats on the deer Duane. :hatsoff: What zone did you get him in? Guess your done with bucks for the season. I took a doe with my flintlock last Saturday and passed on a small eight yesterday in zone 12. Looong season so I'm holding out for a big one that has been spotted in my area, guy on the next property said he has been hunting for over 30 years and got buck fever, missed him during bow season. Says it's a typical that should go about 145 to 150 inches gross. Post some pics if you can.

Hey Mike.

Got him in zone 8. Schooly's Mountain. I let 4 scrub racks go the week prior over a period of several days. Two of them were shot by a meat hunter after I let them go. He didn't recover the first one.He looked for it for about 10 minutes and then called it a night. The next day it took him five shots with a Remington 1100 loaded with buckshot to kill the other one. A spike with one side broken off.He had four shots into this deer before I showed up and told him to put the poor thing out of its misery. I don't own the property so there's not much I can do about this guy.

Anyway I admire your patience, passing on the 8. I hope you get a look at the big one. I'm done with the muzzleloader permit, but you can hunt with a smoothbore muzzleloader with a shotgun permit, so I think I pick one up. Gun of choice will be an original 1816 flintlock musket .69 cal.

I hope to post some pics soon. It'll be my first time so it may take a while to get it right.

Regards,

Duane
