A while back i posted pics of a short Fusil i had just acquired. Then i posted some after working on it pics.
Well, yesterday i got the vent liner from TOTW and installed it. That finally finished it. This is one of the
made in India guns. I know a lot of folks bad mouth them but i have to say i am happy with this one.
I took a lot of excess wood off the stock. There is still more that a person could remove. I pulled the
breech plug and found that the threads went past the vent hole and there was about a 1/2" hole drilled
in the end of the plug for a powder chamber. Sorta like a patent breech? I opened that hole up quite a
bit to allow more powder into chamber. They had drilled about a 3/16" hole through the barrel and then
drilled a 1/16" hole through the side of the breech plug into the powder. I opened that hole up to 5/16"
smoothed everything up and then reinstalled the breech plug. Then i drilled and tapped the barrel and
installed a 5/16" vent liner. I took it out to try it out. Before this it had only had about 10 rds through it.
I only fired a few today as i didn't have a lot of time. But i was very happy with it. Ignition was Very fast
and the first 2 shots were not far from my aiming point. Just a bit low at 32 yds. I had installed a front sight
on it, since it had none when i bought it so i had no idea where it would hit. The front sight is not silver
soldered because i could not find a machinist or gunsmith around here that could, or would, do it. What i
did was drill a hole and put a bolt in it that i then shortened for a front post. Then i decided to put the front
sight over it by drilling a tiny bit smaller hole in the front sight and tapping it onto the post. Seems to be working
ok but a person could remove it, file the post down flush and then solder the sight onto the barrel. I
fired the 2 rd balls using 70gr Goex 3F and a spit patch pillow ticking home cast .600 rd ball. I then fired
1 shot load using 70 grs 3f and 1 1/8 oz shot at the same range. With some development this could be a great
all around hunting gun. I will enclose pics of the gun and the target. I really like the gun but since nobody
has shown any interest in the .58 caplock smoothbore i have posted i need to sell one of them. So this one is going on the block too. I would like to get $650 + shipping in lower 48. PM if interested. For the full $650 i will include a total of 10 7/8" flints.
